Message from our Principal

Dear Prospective Parents,

Trafton Academy, a private non-parochial school, is located in the Meyer Park area of Houston. Our school of approximately 300 students is comprised of grades Pre-K through eight. We serve families from Bellaire, West University Place, Braes Heights, Southgate, Meyerland, Willow Meadows, the Medical Center, and Sugar Land.

In grades four through eight, Trafton offers honors classes for the academically able and accelerated students. We also offer on-level classes providing a main line curriculum. We are happy to provide both levels of curriculum, realizing the importance of providing appropriate levels of education to all members of a family. Trafton offers a strong, traditional curriculum in a structured, nurturing environment. It is our firm belief that students must have a strong foundation in reading, writing, grammar, and math skills. With a strong foundation in these subjects, they will have the academic skills needed to be successful in all other subjects they study on a daily basis. We are proud of our students’ academic honors. Yearly, 80% or more of our sixth graders qualify for the Duke University Talent Search Program. They earned this award with their outstanding achievement test scores.

A child’s character is also of the utmost importance to us. We realize the significance of encouraging students to live a life of integrity, coupled with kindness and accountability. These values, which are encouraged on a daily basis, will make them stronger students and better citizens.

We at Trafton firmly believe that the well-rounded student needs to be involved academically as well as with extracurricular activities. Trafton competes in the Greater Houston Athletic Conference in the following sports: soccer, volleyball, cross-country, basketball, baseball, softball, and track. All of our sports teams are competitive and usually place high in their respective leagues. Tennis is also offered year-round for students in grades pre-k-8th.  We offer beginning, intermediate, and advanced band, cheerleading, and students have the opportunity to compete in various academic competitions. Representatives of each grade are involved in our student council, and we produce a student/teacher coordinated newsletter and yearbook. There are also two musical productions a year. Trafton offers numerous field trips each year for all grade levels. Grades three through six go to Camp Tejas at the end of the school year. In the fall, grades seven and eight go on a three-day Texas history trip and an invitational six-day spring trip. Trafton students participate in a geography bee, spelling bee, science fair, and PSIA academic contests.

Our school is large enough to offer a complete and well-rounded education. However, we have small classes where we can give each student the attention and interest he/she needs. We’re a small school doing big things!

Trafton Academy…educating minds, building character for life.

Best Regards,

Inez Hutchins, Principal
